She’s Buggin’

I watched the movie Bug last night, and my spirit is soiled for having done so. Ashley Judd plays a woman who was married to a convict, lost her son in a grocery store, and now lives in a motel where she drinks a lot of booze and snorts a lot of coke. She’s a sad wretch in need of love and validation, and therefore is a perfect target for Psycho Guy, who used to be in the military and now thinks they did experiments on him and infected him with bugs that will take over the world.

It was basically about a guy who got messed up in the head (I never saw any fucking bugs, so they had to be in his head) while serving in the military, and his psyche was dealing with whatever screwed him up by manifesting these invisible bugs, probably to serve as a scapegoat for something bad he’d seen or done. And because Ashley’s character was so vulnerable, he was able to make her a believer.

This dungheap of a movie was supposed to be a horror flick, but all it did was make me feel horrible that I kept watching.

There was one part that made me laugh, but it was a dirty, guilty laugh, and I hate myself for succumbing to this pathetic attempt at humor.

“I’m from Beaver.”

“Well, we’re all from beaver, ain’t we?”

Why, Ashley Judd? Why??
